Ten Reasons To Not Ask Jesus Into Your Heart

The music weeps, the preacher pleads, “Give your heart to Jesus. You have a God shaped hole in your heart and only Jesus can fill it.” Dozens, hundreds or thousands of people who want to get their spiritual life on track make their way to the altar. They ask Jesus into their heart.

Cut to three months later. Nobody has seen our new convert in church. The follow up committee calls him and encourages him to attend a Bible study, but to no avail. We label him a backslider and get ready for the next outreach event.

Our beloved child lies in her snuggly warm bed and says, “Yes, Daddy. I want to ask Jesus into my heart.” You lead her in “the prayer” and hope that it sticks. You spend the next ten years questioning if she really, really meant it. Puberty hits and the answer reveals itself. She backslides. We spend the next ten years praying that she will come to her senses.

Telling someone to ask Jesus into their hearts has a very typical result, backsliding. the Bible says that a person who is soundly saved puts his hand to the plow and does not look back because he is fit for service. In other words, a true convert cannot backslide. If a person backslides, he never slid forward in the first place. “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (II Cor.5) No backsliding there.

Brace yourself for this one: with very few if any exceptions, anyone who asked Jesus into their hearts to be saved…is not. If you asked Jesus into your heart because you were told that is what you have to do to become a Christian, you were mis-informed.
If you have ever told someone to ask Jesus into their heart (like I have), you produced a false convert. Here is why.

1. It is not in the Bible. There is not a single verse that even hints we should say a prayer inviting Jesus into our hearts. Some use Rev. 3:20. To tell us that Jesus is standing at the door of our hearts begging to come in.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” There are two reasons that interpretation is wrong.
The context tells us that the door Jesus is knocking on is the door of the church, not the human heart. Jesus is not knocking to enter someone’s heart but to have fellowship with His church.

Even if the context didn’t tell us this, we would be forcing a meaning into the text (eisegesis). How do we know it is our heart he is knocking at? Why not our car door? How do we know he isn’t knocking on our foot? To suggest that he is knocking on the door of our heart is superimposing a meaning on the text that simply does not exist.

The Bible does not instruct us to ask Jesus into our heart. This alone should resolve the issue, nevertheless, here are nine more reasons.

2. Asking Jesus into your heart is a saying that makes no sense. What does it mean to ask Jesus into your heart? If I say the right incantation will He somehow enter my heart? Is it literal? Does He reside in the upper or lower ventricle? Is this a metaphysical experience? Is it figurative? If it is, what exactly does it mean? While I am certain that most adults cannot articulate its meaning, I am certain that no child can explain it. Pastor Dennis Rokser remindsus that little children think literally and can easily be confused (or frightened) at the prospect of asking Jesus into their heart.

3. In order to be saved, a man must repent Acts 2:38. Asking Jesus into your heart leaves out the requirement of repentance.

4. In order to be saved, a man must trust in Jesus Christ Acts 16:31. Asking Jesus into your heart leaves out the requirement of faith.

5. The person who wrongly believes they are saved will have a false sense of security. Millions of people who sincerely, but wrongly, asked Jesus into their hearts think they are saved but struggle to feel secure. They live in doubt and fear because they do not have the Holy Spirit giving them assurance of salvation.

6. The person who asks Jesus into his heart will likely end up inoculated, bitter and backslidden. Because he did not get saved by reciting a formulaic prayer, he will grow disillusioned with Jesus, the Bible, church and fellow believers. His latter end will be worse than the first.

7. It presents God as a beggar just hoping you will let Him into your busy life. This presentation of God robs Him of His sovereignty.

8. The cause of Christ is ridiculed. Visit an atheist web-site and read the pagans who scoff, “How dare those Christians tell us how to live when they get divorced more than we do? Who are they to say homosexuals shouldn’t adopt kids when tens of thousands of orphans don’t get adopted by Christians?” Born again believers adopt kids and don’t get divorced.
People who ask Jesus into their hearts do. Jesus gets mocked when false converts give Him a bad name.

9. The cause of evangelism is hindered. While it is certainly easier to get church members by telling them to ask Jesus into their hearts, try pleading with someone to make today the day of their salvation. Get ready for a painful response. “Why should I become a Christian when I have seen so called Christians act worse than a pagan?” People who ask Jesus into their hearts give pagans an excuse for not repenting.

10. Here is the scary one. People who ask Jesus into their hearts are not saved and they will perish on the Day of Judgment. How tragic that millions of people think they are right with God when they are not. How many people who will cry out, “Lord, Lord” on judgment day will be “Christians” who asked Jesus into their hearts?

So, what must one do to be saved? Repent and trust. Heb.6:1 The Bible makes it clear that all men must repent and place their trust in Jesus Christ. Every man does have a “God shaped hole in their hearts,” but that hole is not contentment, fulfillment and peace. Every man’s heart problem is righteousness. Instead of preaching that Jesus fulfills, we must preach that God judges and Jesus satisfies God’s judgment…if a man will repent and place his trust in Him.

If you are reading this and you asked Jesus into your heart, chances are good you had a spiritual buzz for a while, but now you struggle to read your Bible, tithe, attend church and pray. Perhaps you were told you would have contentment, purpose and a better life if you just ask Jesus into your heart. I am sorry, that was a lie.

The Rapture...

Cause and effect. Sin and consequences. The moral Law from the Bible leaves us helpless, it's the mirror of our soul, but the gospel of Jesus Christ erases all the sins of the world. If you repent by turning away from your sins, having faith on Him you will never perish in hell. The Bible gives us the truth, but we want to walk blind when morality and Jesus comes alive in the picture. Why? Because Jesus condemn those who loves sin. The pleasures of life, a way that leads to hell. No one likes to hear or read when a real Christian tells someone is a sinner. The Law it's already written in our hearts and those who know that lying, stealing, blaspheming, adulterating & dishonoring their parents is bad knowing they have a conscious. Unfortunately many Christians and un-Christians are blind in sin. I am not judging humanity, but the Bible does. Be really careful of what you love, because love is passion, and passion could lead you to the worst thing of your eternal life, the wrath of God. Be ready. Are you spending your day in a holy manner?

1) Are you sleeping too much?
Measure the time of your sleep appropriately so that you do not waist your precious morning hours sluggishly in your bed. Let the time of your sleep be match to your health and labor and not to slothful pleasure.

2) Let God have your first awaking thoughts.
Lift up of your hearts to him reverently and thankful for the rest, enjoy the night before and cast yourself upon him for the day which follow. Familiarize yourself so consistently to this that your conscience may check you in common thoughts shall first intrude. Think of the mercy of the night rest and how many just spent the night in hell. How many in prison, how many in cold heart lodgings, how many sick, how many suffering from agonizing pain and sickness. Think on how many souls were that night called out from their bodies terrifyingly to appear before God and how quick the days and nights are rolling on. How speedily your last day or night will come. Are you ready?

3) Spending the day in a holy manner includes prayer.
Let prayer by yourself alone take place before the collective prayer of the family. If possible let it be first before any work of the day. If you do not have a schedule for your life were you have set up a way to read your bible and pray, GET A PLAN! AND PROTECT IT! AND DEFEND IT! Quiet time to reading your bible and praying. Don’t let anything rip you off course.

4) Family Worship.
Let family worship be perform consistently and in a time when it’s most likely for the family to be free of interruptions.

5) Meditation.
When alone in your occupations improve the time in practical and beneficial meditations. Think about the goodness and perfections of God. For example, Why are we here? What is our purpose? Remember, the whole point is to glorify God. When you wakeup, instead of slugging to another day like “GRRRRR of the work I go, or GRRRRRR with the chores, or GGGGRRRR with the school, or GRRRRR with cleaning or GRRRRR with life, you need to realize there is a bigger thing going on. Our job assignment is to glorify him and once we get that, once we think about that, it is the highest honor and it the highest duty and the most delightful task. Then, when somebody tells you “meditate on God’s goodness, the perfections of God, Christ and redemption, heaven and hell and how worthy you are to go in there, how you deserve eternal misery and hell and what Jesus did on the cross.” It so, that you can be strengthen for the battle of glorifying him, redeeming the time not loosing track of it and wasting your money on worthless recreation or junky TV or idol talk or unprofitable company and sleeping all the time when it should be redeem to glorify God because THAT IS YOUR JOB!!!!!!!!!!

6) Be more careful to escape that person, action or course of life that will rob you of your time than you will be to escape thieves and robbers. TIME, redeem it by using it. Make sure that you are not merely neveridol but rather that you are using it. Make sure that you are using your time in the most profitable way that you can and not to prefer a less profitable way before one of greater profit.

7) Eating and drinking with moderation and thankfulness for help not for fun. Have you ever let yourself get hungry enough were you are not just “cliché” starving were you can eat a horse, but in a position were if you don’t eat you might get light headache and pass out? Then when you eat food you pray something differently. Instead of “Lord, thank you for letting me enjoy this morsel” It is: “Lord, thank you for providing this take it, use those chemicals and all that stuff that you do inside my body so that I can have the energy, so that I can serve you”. It just gives food a different perspective and it doesn’t mean that it can never be enjoyed. There are festivals and celebrations we can be that puritanical. That food can be a delight and I think in heaven is going to be amazing but done right. We can enjoy it for celebrations and for thanking God for his goodness. But is more profound when is not just constant, constant. When is not too much, but enough so that I got enough energy to glorify him. There is a big difference. Remember the sin of Sodom: Ezekiel 16:49. “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food and abundance of idleness”. Yeap! There was more than homosexuality although that was the predominant one. The apostle Paul weep when he mention in Philippians 3:18-19 “Those whose end is destruction, who’s god is their belly, and who’s glory is in their shame- who set their minds on earthly things being enemies to the cross of Christ”.

When you close the day, if you want to spend it profitably, if you want to spend it well, before you go to sleep, review your actions and the mercies of the day pass, to be thankful for his mercies and humble by your sins in the cross so that you might renew your mind as well as your resolve for obedience. To examine yourself every day. To see how you are doing. If sincerely adhere too, these will be conducted to the holiness, fruitfulness and quietness of your life and add to you a comfortable and peaceful death. So, Christian: You got a King that you get to serve. Is your dang under control or are you just getting pissed or whipped by the thing?? And if you are thinking, I live out of the far, I can’t do anything big for God, I’m just a Kid, and I can’t do anything big for God. YOU ARE SO WRONG!! You can. Redeem the day. Become the master of your time and use it for him as a profitable servant because there is no better value. There is no better use of your time than serving your king.

Something to Think About

Please. Take your time to consider this message as something serious. It might be your last chance to receive something like this.

It is proved that death is the number one cause of death. We live and then we die. Have you ever thought about it in detail? We always have this thing of enjoying life all the way of it when in the other side something eternal it's waiting for us. Maybe you are one of those people that really don't mind about the after life or maybe think you will go to heaven because you never have done anything wrong to anyone. The Bible says that they will declare their own goodness.


Do you consider yourself to be a good person?
Let's examine it with the following questions:

1. Have you ever told a lie?
The Bible tells us:

"Lying lips are abomination to the LORD." Pr. 12:22

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Rv. 21:8

2. Have you ever stolen anything?

Even an insignificant thing – knowing you did wrong?

“Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Co 6:10

3. Have you ever taken the Lord’s name in vain?

This is called blasphemy by using His holy name as a curse word, using it as a disgusting word.

“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Ex. 20:7

4. Have you ever looked anyone to lust?

Not married? That goes to you too.

Jesus said; “But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Mt. 5:28

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,” 1 Co. 6:9

This means no sex before marriage or outside of marriage.


Did all these?

If said yes then by your own admission you are a lying, thieving, blasphemous and an adulterer at heart, and these are only 4 of the Ten Commandments. You know that every time you break all of those Commandments you knew it was wrong. Your conscious (con-science and scious-with knowledge) let’s you know the difference of right and wrong.

“We are all guilty before God’s standards. Perhaps you think God is good and because of His goodness He will overlook your sins. But if you knew of a human judge who turned a blind eye to the crimes of a guilty rapist… would you describe him as “good” judge? No. That would be a corrupt judge and God could not be a corrupt judge.” –Ray Comfort, Read Rv.21:8

The good news is that someone took your place on the cross, Jesus Christ died for you so you don’t have to go to hell. He took our punishment to save us from eternal misery. But the only way for eternal salvation is through Jesus Christ; Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Jn 14:6

The only way to be saved is through repentance and faith only, by turning away from your sins and trusting in the Savior who will give you Eternal Life; Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.” Jn 6:35

“God does not want you to perish. He is rich in mercy and compassion, and has provided a way for you to be forgiven. He has invited you to come to Him for a full pardon and receive the free gift of Eternal Life. You cannot earn it and you do not deserve it, but God is offering it to you as a proof of His love for you.” –Ray Comfort

Once again, please, consider this information as it probably will be your last minute. Read your Bible every day. I promise that you will find the truth. Going to church on Sundays and reading the Bible won’t save you, not even your pastor or any religion. Only Jesus Christ has the key to open heaven for you through repentance and faith.
